2019 Commended Students

The administration of Galesburg High School is excited to announce that three students have been named Commended Students in the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program.  Senior students Emma Koval, Nora Leahy, and Christopher Pamatmat have received this honor.  Students are awarded based on their exemplary score on the PSAT/NMSQT that was offered around the nation in the Fall of 2018.  About 34,000 students nation-wide are being recognized as Commended for their academic promise.

When asked to comment on future plans, Emma Koval shared that she is undecided in terms of what college she would like to attend, but is certain at this point that she would like to study Biomedical Engineering.  Nora Leahy expresses an interest in pursuing a liberal arts education to study History, Chinese, and Spanish.  Christopher Pamatmat wishes to further his studies in Engineering and/or Music.

Speaking of Emma, Nora, and Christopher, Assistant Principal Mindi Ritchie shared, "I am incredibly proud of the commitment to academics that these three students have shown.  While their test scores are stellar by any account, they are also well-rounded students that serve in leadership capacities throughout out building."  A spokesman for the National Merit Scholarship Corporation also commented, "these students represent a valuable natural resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation".  KUDOS to these students for their work and determination!
