Fourth-grade students at Silas Willard Elementary recently took a "hands-on" approach to their latest math challenge. Under the guidance of Mrs. Bevenour, the students have transitioned from studying complex shapes like parallelograms to mastering the concept of lines of symmetry.
Rather than just looking at diagrams, students participated in the learning process by cutting out various shapes to first explore their physical properties. They then folded the shapes to determine how many times they could be divided into equal, matching halves. The students had to ensure that both sides matched perfectly after the fold.
Mrs. Bevenour continues to foster an environment where students can reach their full potential through innovative classroom activities.
