Shoes

Colder weather is on the way, and many CUSD #205 students do not have suitable shoes to wear.  Thanks to the generosity of the Jack E. Larson Endowment Fund, established at the Galesburg Community Foundation, over 200 students in grades K-8 now have adequate shoes to wear during the upcoming season.

As with many other things, the pandemic changed the way this event was handled.  During previous years, students who were in need of shoes were identified by CUSD #205 staff members and then bussed to the Galesburg Wal-Mart to be fitted for new shoes.  This year, CUSD #205 staff members began to identify students in need at the beginning of the school year. Once each list was compiled, the Jack Larson Shoe Committee worked with the Galesburg Wal-Mart to place an order for the shoes needed.

Beginning on Monday, November 29, 2021, the Jack Larson Shoe Committee members, along with local volunteers,  began visiting schools to deliver the shoes and ensure that the students had a properly fitted pair of shoes.

The legacy of Jack Larson continues to improve the lives of many CUSD #205 students in need.  A special thank you to all the volunteers who donated their time to work with the students this week.
